Chicago, IL, November 1, 2012– On Tuesday, December 4th , First Nonprofit Foundation will host a free three-hour intensive seminar – Get Your Board On Board: Activate and Energize Your Most Valuable Asset with Dynamic, Effective Orientations. The event is co-sponsored by First Nonprofit Foundation and the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.
An interactive small-group format will keep attendees engaged and their ideas flowing as presenter Terrie Temkin shares her decades of experience on how to get the most from nonprofit boards.
Based on First Nonprofit Foundation’s popular Ten Things Every Board Member Needs To Know series, this event will benefit nonprofit executive directors, top-level management and other staff who work closely with their boards. Nonprofit staff are encouraged to invite their board members to accompany them as the best orientations are planned by board members for their peers. “Once upon a time people entered an organization and spent years working their way up through a series of leadership positions of increasing responsibility. Those days are gone. New additions to the board must hit the ground running”, remarked Ms. Temkin. A thorough and effective orientation can make that possible. But too often orientations are an afterthought or nonexistent. Even thorough, well planned orientations are, all too often, boring. This three-hour interactive session will leave attendees with valuable and creative ideas to make their boards more cohesive, knowledgeable and powerful right out of the gate.
Terrie Temkin is an acknowledged thought leader in the areas of governance, board development, and planning. She is an award-winning speaker with more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit management and organizational communication. Ms. Temkin authors the “On Nonprofits” column that appeared in the Miami Herald, Philanthropy Journal and the newsletters of approximately two dozen organizations supporting the nonprofit world. She is an in-demand conference speaker, has written several books and contributes to nonprofit journals all over the world. She is currently editing a book on governance to be published by Charity Channel Press. In addition, Ms. Temkin teaches governance at Florida Atlantic University’s master’s program in nonprofit management.
This free seminar will be held Tuesday, December 4th in Charlotte at the Foundation for the Carolinas. The event begins at 12:30 p.m. with registration and complimentary lunch followed by the presentation ending at 4:00 p.m. Although the seminar is free, space is limited.
