Recruiting tips for nonprofit leaders

Just like businesses, nonprofits want to add skilled employees to their team to achieve higher levels of productivity and efficiency. However, it's not always easy to compete for the most talented staff members, as many nonprofits can't offer high salaries and the same benefits as top organizations throughout the United States. Below are some tips nonprofits recruiters can use when trying to hire their next superstar:

1. Attend conferences
Networking is a good way to find prospective employees. Nonprofit managers can not only learn from leaders in their industry, but also meet people who may be interested in working at their organization. According to an infographic created by mobile-networking app Bizzabo, job seekers run rampant at networking events, and they are likely more than willing to listen to the pitch of nonprofit decision-makers about potential employment.

2. Look for candidates who can complete the task
Nonprofits will always want to add staff members who support the organization's overall mission, but it may be more important to recruit workers who can successfully fill open roles. A blog post for Nonprofit Technology Network stated technology is becoming a larger part of how nonprofits conduct their operations. Even if some technical professionals aren't completely dedicated to the mission of an organization, the nonprofit would be wise to hire the best ones.

3. Don't be afraid to add accomplished talent
Nonprofit managers can be intimidated by job seekers who have been successful at other organizations. The blog post said it's important to try to hire these skilled workers as they can greatly improve processes and bring in new ideas. The more talented employees added to the nonprofit, the higher levels of productivity can be seen at the organization.
