Nonprofits must stay up-to-date on the newest tech trends

Some nonprofits are getting a helping hand from Microsoft to improve their computer systems. Through the company's software donation program, nonprofits and public libraries will have access to Windows 8.1 for use within their facilities. Nonprofits that take advantage of the software program have two-year access to a vast array of products and solutions such as:

  • License upgrades and license mobility
  • Windows Virtual Desktop
  • Windows Thin PC
  • Office language packs
  • E-learning software

The software donation program is just one of many ways nonprofits have found help improving their IT management. As the Information Age continues, many nonprofits find that they do not have the resources or the expertise to utilize state-of-the art tech that quickly becomes mainstream. Even from nonprofits, individuals expect up-to-date websites, mobile payment and donation solutions.

Not all donations are monetary
Other ways nonprofits have received help is through single-night events where tech-savvy philanthropists donate their time to help nonprofits upgrade software, improve a website or set up social media accounts. While many nonprofit employees may use tech in their free time, utilizing the same solutions for business might be over their head. If a nonprofit feels like it's operating in the stone age, programs such as Microsoft's software donation or help from tech competent volunteers can bring organizations up to speed.

The trend is indicative of skills-based volunteers and nonprofits' realization that there are many ways that volunteers can help their organization. Keeping nonprofits up-to-date on new technology and solutions without the upfront costs that traditional business would incur is a huge advantage.

NPOs must stay current on all cost-saving solutions
Nonprofits need to stay informed of all the ways that they can save money, improve fundraising and expand their programs. One cost-saving measure that some organizations are not aware of is the ability of nonprofits to opt of state UI tax pools in favor of more predictable and affordable unemployment insurance alternative programs. Savings programs that provide membership in  LLC or a bonded service programs can save organizations up to 50 percent on UI costs while still meeting state UI obligations.

Technology, rules, regulations and revenue can all change quickly on nonprofit organizations. Without the budget surplus that more traditional business have access to, it can be hard to keep up. Fortunately for nonprofits, there are a number of groups and experts to help nonprofits stay current.

Life is certainly busy these days but having business partners like First Nonprofit has made some of the process hassle free. We have worked with this team for years. When we changed payroll systems, they outlined every step. I think this team is terrific and I know they get the job done! Thank you, Cruz, to all the team at FNP.

FNP has helped our agency to save thousands of dollars every year on our unemployment coverage. The service is phenomenal, and we are thankful to their team as our partner. My experience working with Marshall on the advocacy around UE for nonprofits was also a highlight as someone who teaches advocacy and lobbying for nonprofits. Really, your whole team is top shelf, so thank YOU!

FNP is a great resource for Daniel Kids. To have a TPA that we can count on to take point on not only managing our unemployment claims, but to support and guide any protest hearing, is invaluable. All the professional support staff we have worked with have been excellent, very knowledgeable and responsive. We are grateful for the help and support, thank you.

When I first began in my position at my organization, I hadn’t had experience working with a company like FNP. The staff was so patient and helpful in helping to explain the benefits of First Nonprofit. Anytime I reach out with a question I receive a quick, clear, and thorough response. I’m so thankful that we decided to partner with FNP. Their excellence in customer service, coupled with their variety of packages frees us up to truly serve our staff and community with a peace of mind knowing that our organization is protected against unanticipated unemployment insurance expenses.
