New technology can increase donor potential for nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations have many new, cost-effective ways of drumming up donations. While large fundraising drives still have their place, crowdfunding and the Internet provide new ways to bring in cash. Many forms of Internet donation are also easy and inexpensive to implement.

Many people donate on impulse. They see a chance to contribute to a disaster relief fund or read a moving story about an organization on the Web and decide to give. Instead of tracking down potential donors, the Internet allows them to come to the organization.

Facebook launches a new "donate now" option
Social media is now providing an exciting new way for nonprofits to collect donations with a donate now button on Facebook, according to TechCrunch. While Facebook has been a tool for nonprofits for some time now, the donate now button allows users to contribute without leaving the site. While it might seem like a small change, allowing users to stay on the page instead of visiting the nonprofit's website has its advantages. Users can read a post from a nonprofit and donate immediately.

Perhaps the best news for the nonprofits is that there will be no fee associated with the donation. Facebook even intends to pay the credit card processing fee for the organization. The Facebook method is just one of many new ways that nonprofits can capture potential donations quickly and easily. While the donations may not be large, they allow organizations to reach a wider audience with a smaller investment. A share button will also allow users to spread the word about donating to the nonprofit, providing access to users who may not currently follow the nonprofit on the social networking site.

Visually Impaired Preschool Services has been a client of First Non-Profit since it was first offered as a benefit of VisionServe Alliance. We completed a thorough evaluation of cash savings to our agency before taking advantage of this wonderful benefit and it has been a very wise decision. The Ensight Skills Center has enjoyed working with First Nonprofit for several years. We are enrolled in their Unemployment Savings Program and although we have not required a lot of intervention, there have been a few times. I know others have dealt with the same problem of unemployment fraud over the last year and in our case, a call to First Nonprofit (they actually answer their phones) cleared up the issue. They also sent us a letter to send to all our employees telling them what they needed to do to prevent this in the future and protect themselves. What a relief! Over the years if I have questions or concerns, they are happy to listen, advise and help if they can. Another BIG advantage of using First Nonprofit is that all the money that is paid into the Unemployment Savings Program lives on my balance sheet as an asset. The money continues to be Ensight’s not the governments. First Nonprofit has certainly given me peace of mind.
