Facebook has long been one of the go-to social media networks for nonprofit organizations, mainly for its unbelievably vast audience (a staggering one billion plus users and counting) and its unlimited content sharing potential. It allows nonprofits everywhere to interact directly with their current supporters, the opportunity to gain even more support for their cause and, with any luck, a way for name/mission to “go viral”.
Nonprofit social and new media managers can rejoice because Facebook has now made it even easier to drive donated dollars to your organization. On August 24, 2015, Facebook announced that the “Donate Now” call-to-action button is available to use for all nonprofit brand pages. The “Donate Now” button was originally introduced in 2013; however, it was only used on the pages of organizations with whom Facebook had specific partnerships.
TechCrunch, a media property that profiles breaking tech news, recently interviewed a Facebook spokesperson about this new unveiling and the article stated:
“Every day, people use Facebook to raise awareness and support for causes they care about and to motivate others to do the same. We’re inspired by how much good comes from these connections, so we’ve added ‘Donate Now’ calls-to-action on Pages and link ads to make those connections easier than ever.”
The addition of this call-to-action gives nonprofit organizations an exciting new opportunity to increase their following and translate those “LIKES” into dollars.
