First Nonprofit Operations and Families First Relief Package Update

As we continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19, we want to assure you that First Nonprofit (FNP) remains fully operational. Our team began working remotely yesterday and only a few of us will visit our office for limited periods of time for the near future.

There continues to be various new legislation pending that we are monitoring very closely. To clarify, the Families First Relief Package proposed by the House has not been passed the Senate. Therefore, the laws concerning eligibility at the state level still apply. Some states have altered eligibility but the vast majority have not. Please contact your unemployment claims administrator for more state specific eligibility information.

From what we have gathered from AUTO (Association of Unemployment Tax Organizations) and our chief lobbying group at UWC (Unemployment and Workers’ Compensation), the Senate did not feel it was enough support for the business community. In addition, UWC shared that we will need to be vocal as a group by advocating to our respective Congressional reps and Senators to treat all employers equally with respect to non-charging of benefits paid in lieu of the COVID-19 impact. The majority of the initial legislation does not apply to or provides very little support for the issues facing nonprofit, tribal and government entities and their employees as a result of the COVID-19. FNP is working with UWC and other nonprofit and public sector associations to encourage equal treatment for all employers with regard to the Families First Coronavirus Response Act or any revision to it that ultimately passes both Houses of Congress and is signed is by the President. We will keep you updated, including posting information on our website and service bulletins, as things evolve.

Testimonials

We first started using First Nonprofit’s Unemployment Savings Program when we were a small startup nonprofit.  We didn’t have an HR department and needed expertise in the event that an unemployment claim was made.  We knew we were eligible to be a reimbursing employer, but weren’t sure how to navigate that process.  They made it easy to set things up, plan for, and then manage claims when they came at a very reasonable cost. The amount of time and stress they’ve saved us dealing with all this has been worth way more than the cost.  We’ve now grown to a large nonprofit and do have an HR department but have no plans to stop using their services.  I highly recommend them to every nonprofit I come into contact with!

Because INCS advocates for the operating conditions that allow charter public schools to provide high quality public education, partnering with First Nonprofit was an easy decision. First Nonprofit’s unemployment programs provide our member schools two operating elements crucial to their ability to provide high quality public education: savings and budget certainty. Capable, committed teachers are the key to student success. By participating in the unemployment insurance savings plan, charter public schools gain peace of mind and are able to invest more money in their teachers.
